Japan Color 2001 Coated is the standard characterisation for Japanese sheetfed offset on coated stock, and it is what you should be converting to for any job actually printing in Japan. Like the SWOP and Japan Color profiles generally, it is distributed with Adobe applications rather than from a public standards download.
The total ink limit is 350%, which is meaningfully higher than the European and North American equivalents. ISO Coated v2 sits at 330%, SWOP v2 at 300%.
That difference is not academic. Take a file separated for Japan Color 2001 Coated and run it on a press expecting 300%, and you have laid down an extra 50% of total area coverage in the shadows. The symptoms are slow drying, set-off onto the sheet above, and marking in finishing. It is the sort of problem that appears after the run rather than during it.
So: do not treat these profiles as interchangeable just because all three describe coated offset. Convert for the press that is actually printing the job.
There is a matching Japan Color 2001 Uncoated for uncoated stock, with a lower ink limit and considerably more dot gain. If your job is on uncoated paper, use that one rather than compensating by eye.
