When a customer adds a configured job to the cart, Print Options recalculates the price on our servers, and the job arrives as a cart line that carries the whole specification. This page covers what that line contains and the choices you have about it.

What the cart line shows

A configured job is one cart line. It carries:
  • The price our servers calculated for the job. The total the customer saw in the configurator is a preview; this is the price charged. See Prices are verified, always.
  • Every answer, under your own labels, such as Paper: 350gsm matte, Size: 24 × 18 in and Quantity: 500 cards (with the quantity field’s unit word after the number). A quantity per option field lists its counts: Size: M × 5, L × 3, 3XL × 2. An uploaded file is listed by its file name.
  • The resolved SKU, combined from the SKU fragments on the chosen options.
  • On Shopify, the copies in the title: a job of 500 business cards is titled Business Cards × 500, so the order list shows the size of each job at a glance. WooCommerce keeps the product’s own title.
The same details are stored on the order line, so your production team reads them from the order, not from the customer’s email.

How fields are named

Each answer is listed under the field’s label, so give every field a label: that is how it is named on the order. A field without a label is named, in this order of preference:
  1. after its section title, when it is the only question in its section (a Size section holding one unlabeled size question reads Size: 24 × 18 in),
  2. Quantity (in the customer’s language), for a quantity field,
  3. its internal id, as a last resort.
Info / summary fields are not questions and are left out.
On Shopify, line-item properties that other apps or your theme add to the product form, such as a gift note or a design reference from the Print.App designer, are kept on the configured job’s cart line alongside the options.

The cart quantity

By default a configured job is one line with quantity 1: the line’s price is the whole job, and the copies are shown in its title and options. That keeps every job, however many copies, in one tidy line. If you want your store’s quantity column, stock and shipping weight to use the real number of copies, open Product settings in the builder and, under Cart quantity, change Line quantity: Real quantity only applies when the verified total divides into equal prices per copy, to the cent (to your store’s price decimals on WooCommerce). A job of 250 flyers at $12.00 would be 250 × $0.048, which a cart can’t charge, so that job stays one line at the same total. The customer never pays a different amount either way. On Shopify, real quantity also needs the customer to pay in your store’s default currency, and allows at most 2,000 copies per line, Shopify’s own limit for a bundle component.
On WooCommerce, a real-quantity line’s quantity is fixed at the number of copies, in the classic cart and the cart and checkout blocks alike: the copies are part of the configuration and its verified price. To order a different number, the customer changes it on the product page, where the price is verified again.
With real quantity, every copy counts against the product’s stock. If you track stock on the product, make sure it covers your largest jobs before you switch.

Shipping weight on WooCommerce

Set a product’s Weight in WooCommerce to the weight of one copy. A configured job of 500 cards then ships at 500 × that weight, whichever cart quantity mode you use, so shipping rates that depend on weight are right. Developers can adjust the weight with the papo_cart_item_weight filter, which receives the line’s total weight, the weight of one copy, the number of copies and the cart item.

Downloading customer uploads

Files customers upload through a File upload field (shown as a Dropzone) come with a download link on the order:
  • WooCommerce: open the order in your admin. Each line with an uploaded file has a Download file button under it. It works for older orders too, as long as the file is still stored.
  • Shopify: open the order. The line item’s properties include Download file (in the customer’s language), right under the file name. It is an ordinary line property, so depending on your theme the customer may see it in the cart too, where it leads to the file they uploaded.
Each click downloads the file under the name the customer gave it. Files are kept for 30 days after upload, then removed automatically; after that the link shows File no longer available. Download what you need into your production workflow within that time.
The link needs no login: its long random address is what protects it, like a private sharing link. Treat it accordingly, and share it only with the people who produce the job.
Files checked by Filecheck and designs made in the Print.App designer don’t get this link: you reach them through Filecheck and Print.App, where they are stored.
WooCommerce developers can change the link with the papo_file_download_url filter, which receives the URL and the file id.
